Founded in 1968 with the founding of John Marshall High School, the John Marshall Business Department has continually been an integral part of John Marshall culture. In 2015, with the inception of the Simulated Workplace initiative, the business department was rebranded as Monarch Industries and the previously known DE Store was renamed the Monarch Market.

Through the running of the Monarch Market, the business department helps students learn about all aspects of having a job and running a business.  Within the various courses, students complete activities, which make the running of the business possible, and available to fellow students.
